Sophie Brahe (1556 – 1643)
Sophie, the sister of Tycho Brahe, was an accomplished astronomer in her own right. Sh was also a noted horticulturalist, student of chemistry, and medicine.
Marie Cunitz (1610 – 1644)
Maria was an accomplished Silesian and one of the most notable female astronomers of the time. The image to the left is a memorial for Maria in Poland. She authored a book Urania Propitia, in which she provided new tables, new ephemera, and a more elegant solution to Kepler’s problem. The Cunitz crater on Venus is named after her. The minor planet 12624 Mariacunitia is named in her honour.
